The answer to that question is yes, but the process of finding a wife may not be as easy as you think. Choosing a wife is one of the most difficult decisions a man will make in his lifetime. So let me give you some tips that can lead you to the best possible outcome when looking for a wife from Thailand.
Thai culture is centered around the family. The family values in Thai culture are perfect for perpetuating gender roles in men and women. Men are expected to provide and protect and women are taught to help their husbands and manage their households. A perfect environment to find women that could be wife material.
The Family
This is a great place to start when choosing a Thai woman for marriage. The Thai family unit is grounded in traditions that are not common to western society. Thai children are expected to care for their aging parents. Therefore when you marry a Thai woman understand and accept that you marry her family as well. Whereas in the West parents are filed away in senior citizen homes with medical insurance for their care. That is not how it is done in Thailand, the care of the aged falls directly on the children or siblings.
You will be expected to provide for your wife’s parents as they age. That could include; Daddy’s car note, money for their medical needs, and emergencies. Emergencies could include an emergency room visit for the family buffalo too! Forewarned is forearmed. Many do not realize the vast majority of the Thai population live agrarian lives cultivating fields of nutritious fruits, grains, and vegetables.
Another tradition someone pursuing marriage with a Thai woman needs to be aware of is,
the dowry or bride price. Yes, that’s right, you have to give a gift of money to the parents of the bride. The amount could range from $1,000 to $30,000, sometimes more, depending on the beauty and social status of the woman. And you still may be on the hook to pay for the wedding party.
The reason for the dowry is once you marry the woman, the parents will receive less assistance than when the woman was single. As a single woman her focus, financially, was dedicated to herself and her parents. As a married woman her new focus is her husband and children. Losing that support comes at a cost in Thai culture.
The dowry is far from Western traditions, but it totally destroys the argument of bitter women from the West. The argument that men from the West looking for relationships with Thai women are broke, and the women are desperate, is visibly wrong. A man must prove his value to the Thai family with cold, hard cash from the beginning to be considered a suitable husband for their daughter.
Time
Time is an important aspect for courtship and establishing any relationship with long term possibilities. It becomes extremely important when considering marriage. How does time relate to relationships with Thai women? Depending on your age it may be difficult for you to spend long periods of time in Thailand. You need a substantial amount of time to get to know the family, the culture, and your significant other. Therefore time is critical for this decision. Be advised, long term visa options are challenging to obtain.
As a general rule, foreigners with a tourist visa are allowed to travel to the Kingdom of Thailand twice a year before your entrance may be restricted. Two tourist visas will usually allow you to spend a total of 180 days in Thailand in one year. 180 days is not enough time to make a life changing decision. Young men under the age of 50 face this challenge. If you’re over 50 a retirement visa could be your best option for long term visa opportunities.
When involved in a long distance relationship anything could happen when you’re not around. Since there’s no way you can physically see what’s going on, deception, lies, and infidelity could take place. Men, you must accept the reality about this aspect of long distance relationships for both yourself and the woman you wish to believe is your girlfriend, or about to be your wife. Sometimes wants and desires need to be satisfied and since you or your woman are not available cheating occurs. Just keeping it real.
Mindset
Fellas you have to understand the mindset of the women you come into contact with during your visit to Thailand. Girls you meet at bars and GoGos tend to be from the lower strata of Thai society with lower levels of education. Not too many chemistry majors hang off of GoGo poles. So bear in mind, many of these women are about ‘the bag’ first and foremost.
Women that have jobs away from the entertainment industry, have a better understanding about the struggle of earning money and building a life with a man. Women from the bars and GoGos sometimes wake up to reality when they get close to the wall at around 30 years old. At this point they could become good wives because they see the need, but the ‘get the bag’ mindset may still remain. Meaning, they probably will expect to stay home and be provided for with an allowance like many of their friends.
Modern Women Are The Same All Around The World,
But the laws that give modern women the sense of empowerment and entitlement are not. If you’re inclined to live with your new wife and start your family under the contracts of Western society. You could put yourself in a situation where you can be taken advantage of. If you place someone with a ‘get the bag mentality,’ in an environment where false accusations, divorce laws, and family courts incentivize women to extort men successfully, without any accountability, be forewarned. Make certain you’re confident your future life partner is grounded in values that will bring positive outcomes as you experience the trials of life, family, and relationships. Seriously consider legally marrying and remaining in a country where the laws support you as a husband and breadwinner. If things go wrong you’ll be glad you did.
Language
Learning the language increases your opportunities exponentially. Being able to speak the Thai language allows you to communicate with women throughout all levels of society and throughout the rural areas where you can find diamonds in the rough.
